  DIRECTIONS

1- Condition and roll out your clay to approximately 1/8" inch thickness . Pasta machine setting will be 3 .

2- Lay the clay on your tile making sure you clay is large enough for the copy you want to do

3- Trim copy and lay face down on the clay ( start with things         3by3 inches or smaller ) Make sure the clay is not too soft at this stage , if it is place it and tile in the fridge for 10 minutes and then continue .

4-  Burnish back of copy onto the clay GENTLY but firmly . Continue until ALL areas of the copy at one with the clay . Be careful not to distort the clay out of shape when you burnish .

5- Use blade to trim any excess clay from around the edges of the copy ,  Check the copy & Burnish again after trimming the clay  away.

6- Now  that you have your copy burnished to the clay , spray the entire surface with the Alcohol  until you can see the copy thru the wet paper . wipe up any extra flowing on the tile and make sure the copy stays flat , burnish with your finger tip .

7- Patience is the key now , Don't touch the copy for at least 15 minutes , keep it moist with the Alcohol all the time . After 15 or 20 minutes , lightly and gently rub the back of the moist copy to remove the first layer of paper . Spray the copy again and set aside . Continue this step as you remove all the layers of paper that make up the copy , this will leave the toner behind as your perfect transfer !  BE PATIENT and GENTLE , if you rush the process too much you will remove the toner . If the paper you are rolling off each time has any color to it , Slow down !

8- Once the copy has transferred  completely , wipe the surface of the transfer lightly with Alcohol , allow surface to dry and then bake according to package directions . DO NOT attempt to remove the clay image from the tile until it has been baked or it will distort .

9- layer , embellish  , add to collages , have a blast !

TIPS FOR SUCCESS !

*ALWAYS USE FRESHLY ROLLED OUT CLAY AND FRESH COPIES .

   *BURNISH WELL.

*BE GENTLE WHEN ROLLING THE PAPER OFF , USE FRICTION .

* TOO MUCH PRESSURE WILL DISTORT THE CLAY AND IMAGE .

* BE PATIENT , ALLOW THE ALCOHOL TIME TO WORK .

* KEEP PAPER MOIST ALL THE TIME .

* REMOVE ONLY ONE LAYER OF THE PAPER AT A TIME .

* LOWER OVEN TEMP AND TIME WHEN USING LIGHT COLOR CLAYS TO AVOID DARKENING AND BURNING THE IMAGE.

* IF YOU ARE NEW TO POLYMER CLAY , INVEST IN SOME GOOD BOOKS AND READ ALL YOU CAN , THIS IS A GREAT MEDIUM .

PhotoArt Stamps and Polymer Clay Class

Welcome to class ! Polymer clay is one of my favorite mediums , I had to figure out how to use it with  photoart stamps of course ! This class will cover two ways to incorporate Photoart stamps into your art work . The first is photocopy transfer , and the other is actual stamping .

Supplies you will need for Clay Stamping

Directions for Stamping in Polymer Clay -

  1. Condition and roll out a 4 inch by 6 inch piece of clay , approximately 1/8th of an inch thick . transfer clay to working tile .
  2. Ink up one image at a time , take the first stamp and bring it down evenly on the clay , DO Not press very hard , we are not seeking a deep impression , Rather kiss the surface of the clay with the stamp , lightly press all corners and edges .
  3. Remove the stamp from the clay by lifting it straight up in the air , without a wobble , or the image will be distorted !
  4. Allow the image to surface dry .
  5. Trim that image away from your work sheet of clay with the blade or shape cutters  , and lift it onto your baking tile , set aside and stamp the next image into the working clay .
  6. Make sure your stamp is not over inked or the image will be lost as , the excess ink will puddle on the clay  . Stamp off onto scrap paper before your clay to check the stamps coverage !
  7. Read the package directions and bake your clay accordingly as all manufacturers differ in time and temp !
  8.  Light colored clay will burn easily , make sure to use an oven thermometer !
  9. When warm you can trim the edges with fancy or regular scissors . Warm from the oven clay of this thickness cuts like a dream !
  10. When the clay is cool , color and embellish !
  11. Lightly coat the final piece of clay with the Future floor wax . Use multiple coats for a higher shine , allow to dry in between coats !

          HAND COLORED "PHOTO'S "

• Stamp Images on King James Glossy Card stock using a permanent water proof black ink set aside to dry throughly .

• Using a water brush or a water color brush and water pick up a dab of color by running brush over your water color crayon or pencil . You will be using the brush , not the crayon or pencil to apply the color , this helps you control the soft look we are seeking .

• Dab excess color off on paper towel leaving a small amount of color on brush for a softer look . apply to stamped image stroking in only one direction paint the image .

• You can use a clean q tip to soak up any excess water or color .

• Going back over a painted area with a wet brush will lift the color just applied off , this is good for mistakes and good to keep in mind so that you aren't always painting and then lifting off the color .

• You can add more color or other colors after a section has dried .

• Use small amounts of color at a time , you are looking to achieve a very soft vintage look .
